Postdoctoral Scholar Recruitment at the American Economics Association conference, January 2- 5, 2009 in San Francisco
The Economics Research Center at the University of Chicago is seeking Postdoctoral Scholars to work with Professor James Heckman on research related to the economics of human development. Interviews will be held at the American Economics Association conference in San Francisco, Friday, January 2 – Monday, January 5, 2009.
We are seeking PhD economists (or those with a doctorate in a closely related field) who have demonstrated interest and competence in health economics, labor economics and/or econometrics. Applicant must have strong empirical skills, training in quantitative methods, and experience with large data sets. Applicants should also have demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, as the position will require playing a leadership role in the project(s), supervising graduate, undergraduate, and full-time research assistants.
Work will focus on human skill formation from birth through adulthood, and the effectiveness of interventions on all age groups. Unique data sets on long-term experimental evaluations available. Aspects of health, cognitive, and non-cognitive/socioemotional skills will be studied.

The position offers salary, commensurate with skills and training, as well as health insurance, and opportunities for travel to present and/or collaborate. Term and start date negotiable.

ERC History
The Economics Research Center (ERC) was developed at the University of Chicago in 2001 to support basic empirical research in economics at Chicago directed toward policy problems. The Center was founded with four main aims:
- The ERC will support empirical and quantitative research in economics at Chicago, as conducted by faculty, students and visitors.
- The ERC will create a more attractive and supportive research environment for some of the world's best faculty and graduate students.
- The ERC will systematically publicize the research of faculty and graduates.
- The ERC will support conferences on major public policy questions.
