Mission

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at the University of Chicago increases knowledge and understanding of Latin American languages, histories, and cultures. CLAS supports interdisciplinary research through workshops and conferences and by providing financial support for faculty and graduate student work. We regularly host visiting scholars from Latin America who enrich our research and teaching by providing new perspectives and insights on the region. The Center also reaches out to broader Chicago, regional, and national constituencies in order to expand the impact of the University’s Latin Americanist resources.
