Language Study
Spanish, Portuguese & Haitian Kreyol
At the University of Chicago, language acquisition courses in Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Kreyol are administered through the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures during the academic year. Spanish is also offered at the Summer Language Institute during the summer. CLAS supports additional curricular enrichment activities for Portuguese, such as the Illinois Portuguese Language Connection, which connects UChicago students to their peers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University.

Indigenous Languages of Latin America
CLAS advises graduate students pursuing the less commonly taught languages of the region about shared courses and summer options for Aymara, Mayan languages (including K'iche', Q'eqchi', and Yucatec), Nahuatl, and Quechua.
